From 1936 to 1941, the New York City unit of the WPA Federal Writers’ Project employed writers and photographers to document the city. Their signature publication, The NYC Guide, featured text and photographs of iconic locations throughout the city. In Times Square, the photographer captured the International Casino. The popular nightclub later became a Bonds clothing store, and most recently the flagship store of Toys ‘”R” Us. Federal Writer’s Project photographs, NYC Municipal Archives.
