Starting in the 1980s, New York City experienced waves of immigration from the Caribbean and Asia. In 1988, Borough President Howard Golden created the Brooklyn Unity Campaign to celebrate diversity and foster dialogue among ethnic communities. The office also created brochures that helped new residents from different countries find resources in their local neighborhoods.
