On December 14, 1962 President John F. Kennedy presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the 1964 World’s fair in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens. The fair featured international expositions, and pavilions sponsored by states and corporations. The Congress for Racial Equality (C.O.R.E) protested discrimination in World’s Fair hiring practices by planning a “stall-in” along the highways leading to the fair to disrupt its opening day.
