In 1967, the Spring Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam organized a large scale multi-city demonstration to protest against the Vietnam War. In Central Park, protestors burned flags and draft cards. Civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr. and Stokely Carmichael spoke at the United Nations.
