New Yorke The 17th day of October Anno 1675 Edmund Andros Esq. Seigneur of Saumarez Lieut [Lietenant] and Governo [Governor] Genll [General] under his Royall Highnesse [Royal Highness] James Duke of Yorke & Albany etc of all his Territoryes [Territories] in America. To all to whome [whom] these presents shall come sendeth greeting. By vertue [virtue] of his Majties [Majesties] Letters Patents, unto his Royall Highnesse [Royal Highness] and the Authority derived unto me, I doe one hereby appoint and authorize you Mr William Dervall to bee [be] Mayor. Mr Gabriel Minvielle, Mr. Nicholas De Meyer, Mr. Thomas Gibbs Mr. Thomas Lewis, and Mr. Stephanus Van Cortlandt to bee [be] Aldermen and Mr. John Sharpe to bee [be] Sherriffe [Sheriff] of this City. Giving and graunting [granting] unto you the Said Mayor and Aldermen or any foure [four] of you, whereof the Mayor or Deputy Mayor, to bee alwayes [be always] one (unless in case of necessity by theire [their] absence, Sicknesse [sickness] or otherwise, when the Eldest Alderman is to preside) And upon equality to have the Casting and decisive voyce [voice] with full power and Autho-rity to keepe [keep] Courts, Administer Justice as a Court of Sessions; And Rule and Governe [govern] all the Inhabitants of
